Up Close

Up Close is a continuing project focused on close observation and attention to small details. The images in this section are made by moving closer — not just physically, but visually — allowing familiar subjects to lose their certainty and become something more open and abstract.

Working at close range removes context and scale, shifting attention toward texture, form, light, and surface. Leaves, bark, water, fungi, ground, and natural fragments are photographed not for what they are, but for how they behave when seen closely enough. In many cases, recognition is delayed or secondary, inviting the viewer to pause before naming what they see.

This project is less about documentation and more about presence. Each image reflects a brief encounter — something noticed, not searched for — where nature reveals itself through subtle patterns, quiet disruptions, and fleeting moments of detail. Up Close explores how slowing down and narrowing the frame can transform ordinary surroundings into spaces for reflection.
